What ShoreScore is
ShoreScore is a free beach conditions app and website. It gives every beach one number from 0 to 100, the ShoreScore, that says how good a beach day it is, and a plain call to go with it: Definitely Go, Go, Roll the Dice, Maybe Not or Pass. Under the number sits the best window to go today, a five day outlook, and a map of every beach colored by its score with live rain radar moving over it.
The number comes from live weather, wind, surf, official water quality tests, the seaweed risk and rain radar, added up from now until sunset. It is the same number on every screen: the sky picture, the words, the map and the score all come from it, and we run automatic checks to make sure they agree.
Two numbers
The ShoreScore is the beach day, 0 to 100, higher is better. The ShoreScore Seaweed Risk Index is the risk of sargassum seaweed on the sand, 0 to 100, higher is more risk. It is a risk, never an amount: it says how likely seaweed is, not how much is there. Both are explained on the how our numbers work page.
Where it works
Every beach on Florida's coast, 145 beaches from Pensacola to Key West, each with its own page. We are starting with Florida and expanding to new coastlines.

Where to get it
It works in any browser at shorescore.app, nothing to install. The app is free on the App Store and Google Play, with alerts for when a beach near you is about to be great. No account is needed. Your location is only used to find your nearest beach.
Where the data comes from
National Weather Service forecasts, alerts and surf zone forecasts. National Weather Service rain radar, read for the sky over each beach. Open-Meteo weather and marine data. Florida Department of Health water tests and swim advisories. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission red tide reports. The seaweed reading is our own, checked against a summer of real beach photos.
What it is not
Not a safety rating. Lifeguards, beach flags and official warnings come first, every time. If they say stay out, stay out, whatever the number says.
